Here are some more pictures from our time at the locks.
You might notice that I only have pictures of two of the three freighters that
passed through the locks during our time here. There are two reasons for that...
one, my camera batteries died. I do have a couple of extra sets that I carry
with me, but that gets me to reason two: the kids were getting bored and hungry,
and my camera bag managed to make it down from the lookout area with the rest of
our group while Dad and I remained behind to take in as much of the action as we
could.

A look across the ship shows that it is now below ground level.

the second ship in the background.

The second freighter of the day, which happened to be the 1,000
foot long one, entering the second lock.

A look at the entire length of the ship. It has a #1 on the rear
building - not sure if that is because it is the biggest ship on the
Great Lakes or not.

A look at the new viewing tower from our picnic area. The tower
looks pretty, but the angled glass on the front severely limits the
available sightlines.

After lunch we loaded back into our vehicles to make the
drive to the Tahquamenon Falls. Although the kids were primarily interested in
the lower falls (swimming!), I wanted to pay a visit to the upper falls as well.
We've talked about trying to camp here at some point in the future, and if we do
I will make the 4 mile walk between the two!

This tree root looked pretty cool, coming out of the ground a
fair distance before heading back under.

There wasn't nearly as much money in the river this time around,
at least compared to
this photo taken during our last visit.
