The timing for tonight's game could have been a little
better, in my opinion. Scheduling a game an hour away from home on the first day
of school makes for a very long day. The girls were slightly lethargic at the
start of the game, but then they settled in quickly. They managed to keep the
game close, trailing by a score of 1-0 at halftime. Things started looking bleak
at the start of the second half, though, as the Storm team scored early in the
half to make it a 2-0 score. The Michigan Impact girls kept chipping away,
applying pressure as much as they could. They scored a goal to narrow the gap to
a single goal, then scored once again to tie things up. They netted a third
unanswered goal late in the half to grab a 3-2 lead, which they managed to hang
on to despite losing their starting goalkeeper when she hit her head on the goal
post. Samantha moved into net in relief, and she did everything she could to
give her team a chance to secure their first victory of the season. When the
final whistle blew, the girls got a chance to celebrate their 3-2
come-from-behind victory!
